Passion for Photography

Photography is where I rediscover perspective and balance. Behind the lens, I refine my eye for form and structure — the same principles that guide me when designing digital systems. The minimalism of black and white sharpens my ability to isolate what truly matters, while color trains precision — finding the right tone and light to create harmony in a digital experience. Each photograph becomes a study in composition and clarity, translating directly into how I build interfaces that engage the eye and elevate the user’s mindset.

Documenting the Rebirth of the Karaiskaki Stadium (2003–2004)

Between 2003 and 2004, as Athens prepared to welcome the world for the 2004 Olympic Games, I had the privilege of documenting one of the city’s most emblematic construction projects — the complete rebuild of the Karaiskaki Stadium — on behalf of AVAX S.A.

This was a time of immense transformation. The old structure was dismantled and replaced with a modern football arena that would host Olympic matches and become the proud home of Olympiacos F.C. My role was to visually chronicle this evolution — from the first excavations to the final architectural details — capturing not only the progress of construction but also the human effort, precision, and dedication behind it.

All photographs were taken on black and white film, developed and printed in our home darkroom — a deliberate choice to highlight texture, contrast, and emotion over color. I worked with medium format and 35mm cameras, using primarily Kodak, Ilford, and Agfa films. The grain, tone, and tactile quality of film perfectly suited the monumental nature of the site, transforming machinery, scaffolding, and workers into elements of a broader visual narrative.

Looking back, this project was more than a documentation of a stadium’s rebirth; it was a personal record of craftsmanship — both in construction and photography — during a defining moment for modern Athens.

Documenting the Art Collection of the Athenaeum InterContinental (2001)

In 2001, I was commissioned by Katerina Gregos, curator of the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, to photograph the complete art collection of the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel in Athens for the creation of its Art Book.

At the time, I was working at the hotel as IT Manager, which gave me a unique familiarity with every artwork displayed across its public and private spaces. This made the assignment particularly rewarding — a chance to merge technical precision with artistic appreciation.

The entire project was shot on 6x7 mm Fuji Velvia slide film using the Mamiya RZ67 Pro medium format camera. The vivid saturation and fine grain of Velvia were ideal for conveying the depth, texture, and spirit of each piece — from contemporary installations to paintings and sculptures.

Beyond its technical and photographic demands, this experience opened a new perspective for me on contemporary art and curatorial work. It was an inspiring intersection of hospitality, technology, and creativity, captured frame by frame on luminous transparency film.
